programs facilitate Carpooling in Workplaces and
Communities. Carpooling offers a change to create sustainable
environment awareness and reduce car traffic thereby
easing congestion, car parking and reducing green house

Cars are
here to stay
While there is plenty of talk of people leaving their cars, our experience tells us that
cars are here to stay. The convenience of car travel is
simply too much. We have observed in the past four years
that each fuel cost high results in a temporary euphoria
for alternate mode of travel that dies down, as quickly.
While many have adopted Public Transport for commuting,
it is not possible or convenient for many others for
reasons such as odd hours of work, availability of
public transport etc.  A

Carpooling is sometimes is called smart
travelling as it reduces cost of transportation, pollution and stress while
maintaining almost the same level of convenience. Many
such examples are seen in everyday life where parents
get together to drop and pick children to school or
people carpool to work, especially when they live far
away from their workplace.  Carpooling
for Workplaces
Carpooling
offers the best, easiest and a low cost way to start a
green initiative in a workplaces. It starts with a
simple
Carpooling or
pre-matching service. Facilitating Carpooling in a workplace is an
ample statement on Management's commitment for
environment. When this commitment is followed by
promotion and dedication. Why the

makes sure that there is at least one person who is not
driving. It reduces Car parking requirements.

Individuals, carpooling is initiation into the world of
Sustainability and belonging. It brings in certain
amount of discipline and understanding. It makes them
appreciate the value of time and resources and cost
savings. It means bonhomie and transgression into the
world of Sustainability. Often this means them adopt a
style that is low in resource consumption while still
being dignified, convenient and satisfying.
Developed at the initiative of TravelSmart
Victoria, TravelSmart Carpooling
offers a proactive facility to enable carpooling in
Workplaces and communities. It is a very popular program in
workplaces due to its proactive nature and higher level of
privacy. In addition, TravelSmart
Victoria funds it for some
workplaces. TravelSmart Carpooling program differs from
Envision Carpooling program only in
the way that in Envision Carpooling
program, users can find matches themselves while in
TravelSmart Carpooling, Carpooling Administrators does this. To Carpool,
interested participants register for the program. To do so,
they provide their contact details and preferences related
to Smoking and Driving. They select a Destination to which
they wish to be matched. This destination is decided by the
Carpooling Administrator and is usually the Workplace
locations for Workplaces or points of community interest
e.g. Train Station, School, Shopping Centre or Church for
communities. The program
provides a fully automated utility to Carpooling
Administrator to find matches for participants. The utility
also provides automated emailing facility to all
participants or moderated emails wherein the Carpooling
Administrator can apply discretion. Once the
participants find the Carpool Matches, they need to talk to
them to finalise finer details e.g. pick up or drop off
point, special requirements, Fuel or travel cost sharing
etc. TravelSmart Carpooling is an excellent utility at workplaces
who wish to proactively promote the carpooling program and
being in the know of outcomes. It adds a human touch to
otherwise a fully automated system. It allows participant
information on a very strict 'need to know' basis that is
welcomed by workplaces.
TravelSmart Carpooling is most deployed product in our
Carpooling portfolio. It is successfully deployed it in
RACV,
DHS,
Alinta (now Jamena),
Connell Wagner (now
Aurecon),
City of Port Philip etc. and is in the process to deploy at many more workplaces
within the Melbourne CBD. 'TravelSmart
Carpooling Program' is available either through TravelSmart
Victoria or can be
purchased from Envigreen. In either
case, the workplace or community gets the product
customised to its needs, text, look & feel, other minor
modifications and one year Support. The program can be
hosted on the Internet or Intranet, either by the Workplace
or Community or us.
Developed at
the initiative of
City of Darebin, Envision Carpooling Program offers a
fully functional participant managed Carpooling program for
ma, real and working program for workplaces, factories, City
councils, offices and communities. Envision Carpooling
program differs from TravelSmart
Carpooling program only in the way that in
Envision Carpooling program, users
can find matches themselves while in
TravelSmart Carpooling, a Carpooling Administrators does
this.
To Carpool, interested participants register for the
program. To do so, they provide their contact details and
preferences related to Smoking and Driving. They select a

Contrary to
perception, Carpooling is a very practical preposition. Its
success however depends a lot on the promoters and once the
initial inertia is over, the program becomes a self
sustaining entity, with minimal management / administrative
intervention. The program has been deployed in the Darebin
City Council, Maribyrnong City Council, Laurimar Community,
University of Tasmania and many others.
The program
can be expanded to form 'bike buddies'' train buddies' etc.
to encourage sustainable modes of travel.
